UW Health at The American Center

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Areas of Expertise: HVAC and Plumbing

UW Health at The American Center is a newly constructed 500,000 square foot, full-patient hospital. Hooper was selected to perform the plumbing and HVAC scope of the project based on our qualifications and extensive experience within the healthcare sector.

Hooper’s crews installed over 150,000 feet of pipe, 3 RO systems, and a water reuse system. To expedite the schedule, Trimble Total Station Survey was used for piping layout and sleeving. For the HVAC portion of the project, three 600 horsepower steam boilers with full steam distribution were added, as well as three 1,000 ton centrifugal chillers with cooling towers to provide chilled water distribution to the hospital. A 130 ton dedicated heat recovery chiller now provides and services the process and low temperature hot water needs.

Getting involved with the design process at an early stage, Hooper was able to evaluate and save the owner hundreds of thousands of dollars from their standard building practices. Working closely with suppliers and the consultants we were able to meet the project budget through continual equipment revision and selection.
