MilliporeSigma HPAPI Expansion

Location: Verona, Wisconsin

Areas of Expertise: Fire Protection, HVAC, Plumbing, Process Piping

Hooper’s Mechanical Division assisted Vogel Brothers with a two-story addition at MilliporeSigma in Verona, Wisconsin. The addition doubled the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s capacity to produce high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPI) used in targeted cancer treatments.

Hooper’s Mechanical Division provided expertise across multiple disciplines to meet the stringent safety requirements. Hooper’s HVAC team installed dedicated air handlers with run-around loop energy recovery systems, high-plume exhaust fans, boilers, chillers, and a sophisticated laboratory control system. Hooper also designed systems to maintain indoor air quality standards for user safety.

Plumbing crews installed a variety of piping systems, many of which required validation to strict cGMP standards. Hooper put in compressed air, breathing air, industrial air, nitrogen, two different RO water systems, natural gas, and traditional plumbing systems. The Fire Protection department designed and installed multiple sprinkler systems for this project including multiple sprinkler zones, a deluge sprinkler system, wet sprinkler systems that included sub-zones for the lab, a combination double interlock preaction system and a cleaning system, 850 sprinkler heads, three standpipes, one above-ground heated and insulated 150,000-gallon fire water tank, a 2,500 GPM diesel fire pump, and a fully conditioned fire pump house.
