In order to develop a well-trained workforce to meet our customers' needs in accordance with high industry standards, mechanical contractors associations and their respective trade unions have established joint apprenticeship and training committees (JATC) to administer and oversee the training of people entering the trade. Apprenticeship programs are typically five years in duration requiring a combination of schooling and hands-on work experience. Apprentices get a certain predetermined percentage of a journey person's wage, which increases incrementally over the length of the apprenticeship. It is a wonderful way to acquire valuable skills and get paid for it while doing so.
General minimum qualifications to enter these programs tend to be:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
- Valid driver's license
- Pre-employment alcohol and drug testing
- May require an entrance exam
Hooper Corporation offers apprenticeship in the various trades, as listed below along with the addresses of the respective unions for contact purposes.
